Huw Davies successful in Manual Handling Claim

Huw Davies was recently in a manual handling claim. He defended the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service in the case of Keen v Oxfordshire County Council. The claim brought by a trainee fire officer in relation to injuries sustained whilst undergoing training in the use of fire hoses and ladders.

In a common sense judgment HHJ Clarke dismissed the suggestion that manual handling could have been avoided or that the risk of injury could have been reduced in light of the professional level of training provided.

A particular highlight of the trial was the setting off of a fire alarm in the court building whilst four fire officers were in attendance in the court room. Suffice to say, everyone was evacuated safely.
