Head of Chambers Patrick Harrington QC, leading Philip Williams of 33 Bedford Row, instructed by Tim Gir of Sanders Witherspoon, recently acted for Alex Reid in a defamation action brought against Reid’s former wife Katie Price.
Alex Reid attended the hearing, before Master Gidden but Katie Price declined to attend. It is believed she was in Ibiza.
The hearing set the costs budgets for the trial of the action, setting Alex Reid’s at £400,000 and Katie Price’s defence costs budget at £314,000.
The case centres on, but is not confined to, an appearance made by Price on a television programme, Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side in January 2018 during which she showed a sexually explicit video clip to audience members. The provenance of the clip is disputed.
At a previous hearing Mr Justice Jay commented that costs incurred and forecast were “absurd”.
The trial of the case has been set for a 7 day hearing in the Michaelmas term.
