Lewis joined Chambers in October 2022 following the successful completion of his pupillage. He accepts instructions in all of Chambers’ core areas of practice with a focus on insurance related matters.

Lewis appears in court regularly, instructed on behalf of claimants and defendants in application and costs hearing, as well as at trial.  Lewis also has busy paperwork practice and accepts instructions to advise on liability, quantum, and tactics, as well as for drafting pleadings, schedules of loss, and counter schedules.

Lewis has significant experience in insurance coverage and property damage matters, having recently been seconded within an international law firm, where he handled a number of multi-million pound courage disputes acting on behalf of insurers.

Prior to joining Chambers Lewis worked in the litigation department of a specialist insurance law firm, acting on behalf of insurers in all aspects of fast and multi-track litigation. From this role Lewis worked as Assistant Counsel for a global Lloyd’s of London Managing Agent where he assisted in a number of areas including the negotiation of contracts, policy wording disputes, and claims litigation both domestically and internationally.

Personal Injury

Lewis is regularly instructed in personal injury matters on behalf of claimants and defendants..

He also accepts paperwork instructions including advices, schedules, and pleadings in all personal injury related matters including road traffic accidents, occupiers’ liability, the Highways Act 1980, employers’ liability, and cases involving fundamental dishonesty.

Lewis is willing to accept instructions on a CFA basis.

Credit Hire

Lewis has significant experience of the core issues in credit hire matters having acted regularly for both claimants and defendants. He is adept at handling all aspects of credit hire including cases involving profit earning chattels and fleet vehicles.

Lewis is also experienced in making and defending abuse of process applications arising from mixed personal injury and credit hire claims.

Insurance

Lewis has significant experience in the insurance market having worked previously as Assistant Counsel in a Lloyd’s of London Managing Agent. He is happy to accept instructions across a wide range of insurance related issues from policy wordings and coverage disputes to liability contests.

Lewis regularly appears for insurers in road traffic matters and travel law claims.

Lewis has a busy property damage practice. He acts in a variety of property damage and construction disputes, including damage by flood, fire, and other catastrophic events. He is regularly instructed by Claimants and Defendants and has experience in pursuing subrogated recovery and third party claims.

Recent successes include negotiating the settlement of a £6 million pound coverage dispute following mediation, and obtaining strike out in the High Court of a fire damage claim pleaded in excess of £2 million.

Clinical Negligence

Lewis is keen to develop his practice in this area, having studied medical law both during his masters and on the BPTC.

He is happy to accept instructions to provide advice on liability, quantum and Part 36 offers, as well as to draft pleadings, schedules and counter schedules.

Lewis is developing his practice in this area and accepts instructions on behalf of both claimants and defendants.

Civil Fraud

Lewis is happy to accept instructions from claimants and defendants where issues of fraud and/or fundamental dishonesty arise, both in road traffic claims and personal injury claims in general.

Travel & International Law

Lewis has experience in a wide range of cross-border insurance disputes having previously worked as Assistant Counsel for a Lloyd’s of London Managing Agent. In particular, Lewis regularly coordinated foreign litigation involving UK insurers and advised on the corresponding regulatory risks.

Lewis is happy to accept instructions in all forms of travel claims such as travel delay, holiday sickness, and associated matters.

Employment

Lewis is keen to develop his practise in this area having advised on employment issues while previously working as Assistant Counsel within an in-house legal team.

He is happy to accept instructions from both claimants and defendants in matters across the spectrum of employment litigation.

General Common Law

Lewis is happy to accept instructions in all types of general common law matters. Lewis is experienced in handling contractual disputes and money claims. He also has experience in landlord & tenant issues and breaches of household covenants.

In his spare time, Lewis’ main passion is sport. He is a keen golfer and cricketer, but his real love is West Ham United where he has been a long-time season ticket holder.
