Paul Lewis QC recently acted in the successful defence of a farmer charged with multiple counts of fraud.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant had interfered with bovine tuberculosis tests in order to obtain payment of government compensation. It was further alleged that, in order to increase the compensation payable, the defendant had falsely claimed that the animals were in calf.
In the third week of the trial, and following Paul Lewis’ cross-examination of two veterinary pathologists, the prosecution offered no further evidence upon all charges.
